Although the title of this book is Paper Chemistry, it should be considered as a text about the chemistry of the formation of paper from aqueous suspensions of fibre and other additives, rather than as a book about the chemistry of the raw material itself. It is the subject of what papermakers call wet-end chemistry. There are many other excellent texts on the chemistry of cellulose and apart 5/5(2). Book ReViews Comprehensive Cellulose Chemistry. Wiley: Weinheim, Germany. pp. $ ISBN Cellulose is the most abundant organic material on earth and has been extensively used and studied by mankind.

Analytical methods for the characterization of cellulose are also described. The second volume of the book covers synthetic routes to the various classes of cellulose derivatives. Structured according to the principles of organic chemistry, the achievements of today's reaction theory are considered and supplemented by an extensive collection of. Ice-templated (IT) cellulose microfibril porous foams with unique layer structure and controllable channels were successfully fabricated via unidirectional freezing methods. A book of this type is long overdue. The last similar kind of book was an update, inof Cellulose and Cellulose Derivatives, by Ott, Spurlin, and Grafflin. Plant cell walls are complex structures comprised of diverse configurations of interlocking polysaccharides. Fig. shows the simplified structure of the cell wall and the cellulose arrangement in the plant on its structure and composition, the cell wall is divided into three different layers: the middle lamella (ML), the primary wall (P), and secondary by: 6.This book is aimed at researchers and professionals working on cellulose and its derivatives.

It fills an important gap in teaching, because most organic chemistry textbooks concentrate on the relatively simple chemistry of mono- and disaccharides.

The chemistry and, more importantly, the applications of cellulose are only concisely mentioned.Barton, F.E., II, Chemistry of lignocellulose: methods of analysis and consequences of struc- ture.

Anita. Feed Sci. Technol., Historically, the chemistry of lignocellulose has been the chemistry of the extraction, solvolysis, hydrolysis and analysis of cellulose and lignin from plant material.
